Projects

The work, not just the résumé.

Research, strategy, design and writing — the things I’ve built across politics, media, business and communications.

01 — What I Know

Four disciplines, one skill set

Good communication sits where research, business, messaging and politics meet. Here’s how I’ve put each one to work.

Research

Finding the insight first

  • Analyzed MRI and Nielsen data to build audience insights for FOX News Media ad sales.
  • Produced daily research briefs that informed live political commentary on two primetime shows.
  • Built a research project on restoring Bud Light’s favorability with young adults, and analyzed Axios’s Smart Brevity model and the local news crisis.
Business

Where business and policy meet

  • Promoted North Carolina business through the NC Chamber, supporting statewide advocacy that helps shape policy discussions.
  • Helped build integrated marketing concepts and a pitch for a prospective FOX advertising partner.
  • Built a class-winning EA SPORTS proposal around stakeholder value — understanding what a business needs and how its audiences create that value.
Communications

The right message, well delivered

  • Drafted press releases and coordinated responses to 31 press inquiries for the NC House Speaker’s office.
  • Wrote a mock crisis communications plan for ABC and Jimmy Kimmel.
  • Designed campaign graphics, mailers and a full NC State Fair exhibit for the NC Chamber.
Politics

Knowing how the system works

  • Managed a county commission campaign through a contested primary to a 10-point win.
  • Ran the “NC House Press” account for 71 legislators and scripted weekly “Member Minute” videos.
  • Connected UNC research to state and federal policymakers in UNC Public Affairs.

02 — In the Field

NC State Fair exhibit

I created the NC Chamber’s State Fair exhibit from the tent to the handouts, and coordinated 15 volunteers who collected 13,000+ stakeholder contacts for statewide advocacy.

In the Speaker’s office, I produced and scripted weekly “Member Minute” recap videos highlighting legislative priorities and the constituents behind them.

03 — Writing

Selected writing

Press releases, social copy, crisis communications and long-form analysis.

Kevin Johnson Announces Candidacy for Wayne County Commissioner

“Families here know the meaning of service — whether it’s on the farm, in the community, or in uniform. I’m running to honor that spirit of service.”

Sample posts for the NC House

On the NCORR committee hearing
Today’s #ncga hearing proves once again that, even over half a decade since Matthew and Florence, Cooper’s NCORR is not prepared to finish Eastern NC’s recovery. Those still waiting to return to their homes cannot afford any more negligence. #ncpol
On the passage of House Bill 318
NC House Republicans just passed @ncspeakerhall’s Criminal Illegal Alien Enforcement Act. No more sanctuary sheriffs. No more catch-and-release. Just common sense & law and order. #ncpol

Crisis Communications · Class Exercise

A statement to the fans

“For me, self-expression is an important part of my healing process and for some it may seem unorthodox or frightening.”

A mock crisis-communications statement written in the voice of a public figure facing media scrutiny — balancing reassurance, authenticity and a forward-looking message.

The Axios Revolution: How Smart Brevity Could Save Local Journalism

“Unread long-form journalism serves no purpose at all — and that’s exactly what’s happening as traditional local news outlets continue to shutter across America, creating expanding news deserts.”

An analysis of the economic collapse of local news — a 68% drop in newspaper ad revenue in a decade and more than 200 counties without a local paper — and whether Axios’s Smart Brevity model and city newsletters offer a sustainable path forward.
